The Jaw-Dropping Figures Behind Taylor Swift’s Record-Breaking New Album

The 16-song album explores themes of heartbreak, delusion and love

Revealed on 19 April 2024 and with more than 2.6 album sales already, plus millions of views on YouTube (Fortnight has a crazy view-count of over 47 million, FYI), it’s no wonder the music industry is taken by storm over Taylor Swift’s new album, The Tortured Poets Department.

Featuring 16 songs, the launch marks the largest streaming week ever for an album and marks the singer’s 14th No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. “My mind is blown. I’m completely floored by the love you’ve shown this album,” Swift wrote in an Instagram post. “2.6 million ARE YOU ACTUALLY SERIOUS?? Thank you for listening, streaming, and welcoming Tortured Poets into your life. Feeling completely overwhelmed.”

Tortured Poets also broke historical records on Apple Music, Spotify and Amazon Music since release almost ten days back. It has remarkably become the very first album to garner over 300 million streams in a single day and the first album to reach one billion streams in a single week on Spotify.

Despite the glaring numbers though, there’s still mixed reactions to the songs – some are obsessed while others continue to question the repeated themes in the Grammy-winner’s art. Love it or hate it, Swift’s success has turned heads all over the world and deserves global celebration.
