Sicily’s ancient rhythms and modern science converge at Verdura Resort, where a new longevity programme transforms the secrets of an emerging Blue Zone into a luxurious wellness journey

In the heart of Sicily’s sun-drenched landscape, an unassuming mountain town has quietly held the secret to healthy ageing — until now. Caltabellotta, nestled in the Sicani Mountains just 22 kilometres from Verdura Resort, has recently been identified as an emerging Blue Zone, a rare region where people live significantly longer, healthier lives.
And now, the award-winning Irene Forte Spa at Verdura is translating that phenomenon into a transformative new Longevity Programme.

Backed by nearly two decades of research led by Blue Zone pioneer Professor Gianni Pes and biogerontologist Professor Calogero Caruso, the study sheds light on the lifestyle, diet, and community bonds that underpin vitality in this part of the world. “Caltabellotta stood out not only in the data, but in its deeply rooted traditions,” says Professor Pes.
Drawing on both this research and a personal connection to the town — she’s an honorary citizen and even chose to marry there — Irene Forte has curated a wellness journey that merges modern diagnostics with ancient Mediterranean rituals. The result is not just a programme, but a philosophy for living well.

Guests at Verdura can expect personalised experiences grounded in science, including blood analysis, Vega food sensitivity testing, and 3D skin diagnostics. These are paired with soul-nourishing practices: thalassotherapy, movement in nature, and Mediterranean-inspired nutrition by chef Fulvio Pierangelini, developed in collaboration with clinical nutritionist Giancarlo Giammarresi.
A highlight is a guided trek through the Sicani hills followed by a traditional longevity lunch — a sensorial deep dive into the very lifestyle now recognised for its health benefits.
Described as “a natural laboratory for longevity” by Professor Caruso, Caltabellotta proves that health isn’t only genetic — it’s shaped by environment, connection, and the rituals we honour daily. The new Longevity Programme at Verdura offers guests a way to reconnect with their wellbeing in a setting that feels timeless, yet entirely relevant.
With stays starting from €4,609 for six days, this is more than a wellness retreat — it’s a reset, a recalibration, and perhaps even a reawakening.
